Job Description

• Stand in for the Quality Manager during any periods of absence • Liaising directly with and supporting production in the resolution of quality problems and issues. • Investigation of Non-conformances or customer complaints and feedback • Managing and updating of systems e.g. Milk Management system, QMS, WM9 etc.

Duties & Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations Workflow: • Ensure optimization of lab staff, time and equipment to streamline the workflow in the lab. • Oversee daily workflow e.g. timeous processing of sample, deliverables on test plans, release of product/CIP and reporting on results. • Ensure that lab practices comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) • Implement changes to SOP’s, specification or operations Reports • Coordinate and monitor workflow around report writing and transmissions of reports. • Ensure transmissions of reports is done according to requirements and time frames of the quality system, customer requests and Global/Central Quality. • Evaluate Laboratory Reports regarding technical content, accuracy, frequency and customer requirements. Budget • Responsible for ordering and replenishment of consumables. • Ensure that the lab is adequately equipped to fulfil its functions e.g. glassware and stock items. • Ensure full service and calibration of all lab equipment and instruments. Quality systems • Accountable for the maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality Management System in the Lab. • Work with Quality Manager to suggest preventative action for non-conformance and ensure that preventative measure and corrective actions are implemented • Be a part of the Internal Auditing team. • Support the site's HACCP and ISO programmes. Human Resources The Lab Coordinator takes responsibility for the laboratory staff to ensure their optimum utilization. The Lab Coordinator will mentor and coach the quality team while at the same time applying discipline to ensure optimum output. • Ensure that the personnel operate within the Company policies • Ensure high level of discipline in compliance with the code of conduct. • Manage time and attendance, as well as staff leave. • Responsible for work rosters/schedules • Ensure that the laboratory personnel are adequately trained for their specific job requirements and group procedures. • Conduct job observations and competency assessments. • Manage the daily operations of the laboratories. (Yoghurt and Fresh Plants) Ensuring lab practices comply with GLP.

Skills: • Assertiveness. • Results driven. • Good organisational skills. Qualifications: • Matric Certificate • National Diploma/ BSc degree in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chem. Engineering or Equivalent Tertiary Qualification
