Job Profile Summary

This role was built to lead the organisation on economic regulatory matters to protect BP's interests and ensure sustainable and profitable growth of the South African business. This includes providing input to Strategy and Planning processes to ensure alignment with the regulatory intent and is responsible for co-ordinating BP’s response to the economic regulatory environment and climate change legislation, while ensuring that the organisation is well placed to extract value from the regulatory framework.

Accountable for Economic Regulatory oversight to protect BP's interest of sustainable and profitable growth in South Africa.
Act as gatekeeper for the compliance of petroleum sector regulations
Provide input to the Businesses Strategy and Planning processes to ensure alignment with the regulatory intent.
Delivery of Regulatory initiatives to drive both long- and short-term economic value for the business across the value chain
Specific accountability for the delivery of sustainable margin adjustments across the value chain. These include adjustments to RAS margins, BFP elements and the zone differential. These adjustments typically add R300M – R500M p.a. to BP’s bottom line. The role is jointly accountable for BPSA’s annual financial performance.
Partner engagement related to economic, regulatory and Strategic initiatives
Lead BP’s response on climate change legislation such as Green House Gas emissions, Carbon Tax and Biofuels while ensuring full alignment with BP Group policy.
Support the business Ethics & Compliance agenda with transparent leadership to drive a differentiated outcome for SA Fuels.
Lead, inspire & empower the Regulatory team to deliver on the business & finance priorities
Support the Business (including working with Legal) on a range of regulatory and related business issues as required.
Lead the Regulatory team and support on safety and people health including, and not limited to, work-load issues and handle life cycle choices of employees.

Holding strategic priorities foremost while engaging on technical detail to ensure a sustainable outcome for BP and partners alike
Managing multiple requests and priorities while providing leadership both internally and externally
Interpersonal engagements with stakeholders that have competing positions and vested interests.
Educational & Experience background required

Education
A tertiary education with a post graduate honours degree in economics.

Experience (years and nature)
Minimum 10 years’ experience in applied economics and business operations where 5 years should have been spent at a senior management level with the consistent track record.
Excellent creative, written and verbal communication skills
Excellent problem solving, decision making and judgement skills
Incumbent must have meaningful business operational experience and a strong commercial acumen.
Ability to communicate complex problems and articulate solution options and deliver against daring timelines
Ability to lead through influence – excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, able to work at all levels of the company.
Understands business context, customer needs, competitor actions and how efficient processes add to business value.
Well-developed skills in problem solving, communications, negotiation/influencing, planning and leadership.
Demonstrated success in improving business performance
